5th Grade Curriculum

Here is some information covering our curriculum. Check back for updates as we move through units.


Language Arts (Reading & Writing):

ELA Standards


  • Reading Units: Realistic Fiction, Fantasy, Historical Fiction and Non-Fiction Reading. We incorporate comprehension skills, book clubs and writing about reading throughout the year.

  • Writing Units: Personal Narrative, Informational Essay, Literary Essay, and Opinion Essay.


Math:

Math Standards

  • Our major units cover:

    • Multiplication and Division (Introduction to the standard algorithm)

    • Fractions

    • Decimals

    • Geometry (2D and 3D Figures) and Volume

    • Place Value

  • We also incorporate: problem solving, number sense, and writing about math all year long.



Science:

  • Our three science units are:

    • Ecology/Life Science

    • Earth and Space

    • Forces/Motion (Light, Sound, Heat, Motion)
