Extra Credit

Extra credit MAY ONLY BE COMPLETED if the student has NO MISSING ASSIGNMENTS!!!

Each semester, students may attended two community events related to our class and write a paper for each event attended. Examples of events that students may attended are astronomy nights at the local community colleges and universities, fairs, lectures (in person and online), Night of the Open Door that ASU hosts every year at each campus, science museum, etc. The paper should be two pages long and include the following information:

1) summary of the event attended

2) How did this event relate to our class

3) What did you like best about the event attended

4) What did you learn

5) What is one thing that you heard at the event that you would like to know more about

Students may earn up to 20 points of extra credit for each paper.

Night of the Open Door each ASU campus will host a different night - usually occurs in February

AZ SciTech good site for finding events year around all over Arizona - main events in February & March

Arizona Science Lecture Series from the University of Arizona - mix of different science topics

iBiology online lectures about different biology topics

USGS Evening Public Lecture Series - hosted online. They also have an archive of previous lectures that the students can access

Office of the Maricopa County School Superintendent puts on a STEM Pro Live show once a month. Sometime they are related to the class and other times they are not. So you would need to check and see.
