Difficult Conversations in Office Hours
Workshop Description
This workshop will explore strategies for organizing office hours, for effective one-on-one communication, and for setting boundaries. TAs will review case studies of real office hour challenges and will discuss strategies for maneuvering those difficult moments. Participants will walk away with a list of campus resources they can connect their students to and with renewed confidence in hosting office hours.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
Recognize moments of resistance and personal limitations and develop skills to create innovative and empathetic solutions
Articulate the roles of on campus resources and recognize which resources are most applicable or useful to you and your students
Practice strategies to cultivate inclusivity and manage instances of friction in the context of private or group office hours
