Mr. Christian Lozano

Director of Bands

Christian Lozano graduated from San Diego State University in 2015 where he earned his Bachelor's of Music Degree in Music Education and performed with the Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band under the direction of Dr. Shannon Kitelinger, Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Michael Gerdes, and the Marching Aztecs under the direction of Bryan Ransom. During his time at San Diego State University, he studied Clarinet with Sheryl Renk, Principal Clarinetist of the San Diego Symphony, toured with the Wind Symphony at the 2013 California All-State Music Education Conference and 2014 College Band Directors National Association Conference, and performed with the Marching Aztecs at the 2011 New Orleans Bowl, 2012 and 2014 Poinsettia Bowl, 2013 Idaho Bowl, and 2015 Hawaii Bowl. In 2016, he received his Single Subject Teaching Credential from San Diego State University where he completed his student teaching at Mira Mesa High School with Mrs. Jeanne Christensen. At Mira Mesa High School, Mr. Lozano assisted with the Mira Mesa 'Sapphire Sound' Marching Band and Color Guard and conducted the Concert Band at festivals including a performance in San Diego's Copley Symphony Hall. Mr. Lozano also worked as a Woodwind and Marching Instructor at his Alma Mater, Great Oak High School, under the direction Mr. Jerry Burdick-Rutz.

Mr. Lozano is currently in his 2nd year as Director of Bands at Canyon Springs High School. Under his direction, the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band have received Unanimous Superiors at SCSBOA Festivals, the Marching Band continues to grow and place at competitions, and the Winter Percussion and Guard programs continue to excel including a first time appearance in the 2019 Southern California Percussion Alliance Semi-Finals Championships and first time Winter Guard Association of Southern California 2019 Gold Medalists Champions. Notable performances include the 2nd Annual La Sierra University Wind Ensemble Festival where students had the opportunity to work with World-Renowned Composer Dr. Frank Ticheli.

Currently, Mr. Lozano performs with the Moreno Valley Wind Symphony on Bass Clarinet under the direction of former Air Force Band Commander Steven Razo. In the summer, Mr. Lozano works as a Camp Counselor at the San Diego Summer Music Institute, an all music-intensive camp, on the campus of San Diego State University. His professional affiliations include the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association, the California Band Directors Association, the California Music Education Association, and the National Association for Music Education.
