What platforms will kinder DLI teachers be using?

We will be using Google Classroom, Zoom, Clever and Q.

Google Classroom is our main platform page. It is where we will be posting assignments, weekly schedules, and checking to see who turned it in and giving students feedback on assignments.

Q is a portal for parents and teachers to connect set up through the district. You can check your child’s attendance, email teachers and submit district and school paperwork through there.

Zoom is a video conferencing tool for teachers to meet face-to-face. We will be having 60 minutes of live instruction in kindergarten every day on Zoom in Spanish and 10-15 minutes of live English instruction.

Clever is where students can access all the curriculum and applications the district provides. It houses the shortcuts so students don’t have to go to all the websites individually. We will be assigning online minutes in those programs as part of their independent work.

We will also use websites as resources but those will be shared to help with specific assignments. The main website to look out for is our Google Site(this website) which will house any long-term resources and information.

Will teachers be sharing a schedule?

Yes, teachers will share schedules in their Google Classrooms, on this website, and with administration. We will be guiding you weekly through assignments on the Google Classroom app. You can see an overview of our units under “Calendar” on our Google Site. (this website)

What can I find on this website?

You can find resources, our teacher contact information, and will store any new resources as we continue learning. The website also is meant to provide you any links you may need. Unfortunately on Google Classroom we can’t store resources because it works as a stream so our website will serve that purpose.

Will my child be graded? Will my child be marked for attendance?

Yes, students will be receiving grades on the work they submit. You will be able to see the grade on Google Classroom after we grade the work. Teachers will be required to take attendance. If a student is absent for more than 3 days from distance learning, the teacher must inform an administrator. In order to make attendance a short piece please enter the meeting a few minutes before and be on time.

How will my child be tested?

The district is looking into possible assessments but teachers may provide parents and students with informal assessments. Any updates from the district will be shared with parents.

What will live meetings look like?

Students will log in through Clever or the link posted on the Google Classroom. We must follow the DLI guidelines and provide instruction only in Spanish during Spanish time and English instruction during English time as explained in the orientation. Teachers will provide direct instruction in multiple subjects and will have students engage in different activities. We want them to be interactive, engaging and for your child to enjoy school even from a distance. Teachers will be “accepting” everyone into the meeting and then teaching the whole group using the material prepared. Once the meeting starts the teacher will be calling on students, asking questions and asking for students to repeat or sing together.

What happens if my child can’t attend the meeting?

You can make up the work electronically by emailing your teacher so they can tell you if you need to complete an assignment. If you have any time conflicts with another child or class please inform your Spanish teacher. We may need to consult with an administrator if needed.

What else must my child do to complete their instructional day?

Your child will have daily tasks totaling 120 minutes of instruction per day to complete by the end of the week in addition to the live meetings. More information will be shared on your child’s Google Classroom. 120 minutes of independent work and 70 minutes live (60 Spanish minutes and 10 English minutes) is the requirement.

How will my student turn in work?

You will be using Google Classroom in the Clever app to turn in assignments. Check there daily for assignments. We will mark it as accepted and you will see the grade when teachers post it. We will also be checking the other apps your student will be working in to see that they are completing the minutes required. For example, we will read the reports Imagine Learning provides and see the activity, minutes completed and logins.

What do I need to do as a parent to prepare?

Please watch the videos under our orientation video for information on what you can do. The most important thing is to have your child engage in a routine and ask for help if you need it. Our emails are on the website and we have designated office hours to support. Our district will be offering parent training for those parents who want it. The time has not been determined yet but follow the district site for that information at mvusd.net.

When will report cards be given?

Typically they are submitted at the end of the trimester. This year since our distance learning extends until October (before they are due) it is still under discussion by the district.

What is Imagine Learning?

Imagine Espanol is an app designed to help students with phonics, high frequency words, and reading in Spanish. When they start the app they must take a pre-test. The pre-test is difficult on purpose to level students and meet them where they are in Spanish.

How can I communicate with my teacher?

You can send us an email directly or you can use the Q Parent Portal and we will receive a text or email notification. We can get back to you the quickest during our office hours(12-1pm M-F). The office hours are designated to help answer parent questions, login issues or support you with anything you need. You can also comment on your child's assignment in Google Classroom and we can get back to you within one business day.

¿Qué plataformas utilizarán los maestros de DLI de kínder?

¿Qué debo hacer como padre para prepararme?

Mire los videos debajo de nuestro video de orientación para obtener información sobre lo que puede hacer. Lo más importante es que su hijo participe en una rutina y solicite ayuda si la necesita. Puede enviarnos un correo electrónico directamente o puede utilizar el Portal para padres de Q y recibiremos una notificación por mensaje de texto o correo electrónico. Podemos comunicarnos con usted lo más rápido posible durante nuestras horas de oficina. El horario de oficina (12-1pm lunes a viernes) está designado para ayudar a responder preguntas de los padres, problemas de inicio de sesión o brindarle asistencia con cualquier cosa que necesite. También puede comentar la tarea de su hijo en Google Classroom y nos comunicaremos con usted dentro de un día hábil.
