Memo to Parents

Dear Cole Middle and High School Parents,

Robert G. Cole Middle and High School has long been dedicated to providing a high-quality education for your children. In fact, one of our district core beliefs is that “we inspire our students to their highest level of learning.” In today’s classrooms, we know that technology plays a major role in that high level of learning, and we are committed to becoming a school rich in technological opportunities for all students.

To that end, we employ a school-wide one-to-one Chromebook program for students in grades 6-12. These devices will allow our students to work “in the cloud”. This cloud-based secure environment will help ensure students have access to their work from any internet device, and will allow for greater collaboration among our students and parents.

Our campus is fully wireless, and students will be able to access the internet for research and projects from anywhere on campus. In addition, our teachers have participated in extensive staff development to assure sound, research-based integration of this exciting technology.

Involvement in the one-to-one program is not required, but because the Chromebooks will be used extensively in the classroom, we highly encourage participation. There is no initial cost to you, but as with all school-issued materials and equipment, your child is responsible for the care of the Chromebook. These responsibilities are outlined in the Student/Parent Chromebook Agreement online form (available on this site). The devices are covered under an accidental damage coverage purchased by the district, but students are assessed a $30 handling fee each time the device must be fixed. The coverage does not cover loss or theft. But, for your convenience and ease of mind, we are able offer you an affordable insurance protection option from an outisde third-party vendor for theft. If you decide to purchase insurance, you can find more information within these web pages.

We are excited about the educational opportunities that await us. If you have any questions about the one-to-one program you may contact me, Dr. Roland Rios, at (210)368-8755 or via email at rrios@fshisd.net.

Sincerely,
Roland J. Rios, Ed.D.
