Congratulations to our Excel swimmers who traveled to Louisville to compete in the Triton Derby meet this last weekend. Despite having a small number of swimmers, we ended up winning the combined team total and recording some fast swims along the way. Congratulations to the 5 new swimmers who earned their spot on the 2025 Summer SES Championship team!
A huge "Thank You" goes out to the host team Triton Swimming for putting on such an exciting meet.

Congratulations to our Excel Swimmers, Head SES Open Water Zone Coach Andreea, and all of the Souhteastern Swimming Open Water Zone team for a fanstastic race this weekend in Ft Meyers Beach Florida. Zone teams are comprised of swimmers only in a specific LSC but and are highly selective. Of the 15 total swimmers on the SES team, 4 were from Excel (Lifetime was the other team with multiple swimmers with 2).
Campbell Johnson who is 14, was our only swimmer competing in the 5K while the other three, Brooklyn Lewis, Boston Boyd and Henry Schopfer were all competing in the 2K race. Campbell just returned from Open Water Junior Nationals and was therefore our only swimmer with Open Water experience, our other three were rookies.... not that you can tell by the results.
Results:
Campbell Johnson- 1:14:39 5K, 5th out of 38
Brooklyn Lewis- 42:44 2K, 6th out of 47
Henry Schopfer- 41:14 2K, 7th out of 46
Boston Boyd- 41:40 2K, 10th out of 46
While it seems like almost every weekend, we are competing somewhere, this weekend will be dedicated to celebrations. On Saturday, we will be celebrating the life of Kate Rust, a swimmer who we lost last September. While her time with us wasn't incredibly long, her impact and our memory of her will be. Kate was a swimmer at our Spring Hill site and was an incredible teammate. Her coaches described her as having a quiet leadership but a bright smile. The Rust family is hosting the Live Like Kate Rust 5k on Saturday in her honor and while I will be running, surrounded by 100s of members of our Excel Family, I will be thinking of Kate, the Rusts, and all our Excel families that make up such an incredible organization.
The very next day, on Sunday, we'll have our end of the season awards celebration. At 2:00pm at the Brentwood Baptist Church, I invite all of our families to join us in celebrating what was our most successful short course season ever. Every year, this event turns out to be a lot of fun, lots of pictures, and of course a celebration of incredible kids.
I am incredibly humbled to be part of both these events and I look forward to sharing them with you!
The first annual LLKR (Live Like Kate Rust) 5k race will be held on Saturday, May 3rd at the Bridgemore Village Neighborhood Park in Thompson's Station. The event is being held in honor of Excel Swimmer and TSMS Cross Country Runner Kate Rust who passed away unexpectedly in September.
Kate is remembered for her kindness, determination, and the positive energy and joy that she brought to those around her.
The Rust family has graciously decided to donate proceeds from the event to Excel Aquatics where her younger brother Jack still swims. You can register in advance through the QR code in the attached flyer. Please join us in remembering and honoring Kate and supporting those who were fortunate enough to be a part of her life.
All team members and their families are cordially invited to the Excel Aquatics Awards Banquet. This event will take place on May 4th at 2pm at the Brentwood Baptist Church. We certainly hope to see everyone there to celebrate all of the individual and team acheivements from this past short course season. You will receive more information in your email regarding specific directions to get to the correct auditorium once you arrive at Brentwood Baptist. It is a large campus.
USA Swimming's Virtual Club Championship
Throughout the long course season, we will be carefully following our team's national ranking as we aim to break into the top 40 for the first time every. You can follow along here!
Over the course of the short course season, our club will be tracking a series of recognition programs to help motivate our swimmers to succeed un a multitude of events. While ultimately these programs do reward success, they are designed to be achievable by any level of swimmers, not just those with the most experience. You can always find the running totals for each at the bottom of the Excel Extras.
Heat Winner: Place in the top three swimmers in your age group for number of races won throughout the year. This award tends to favor those athletes that are attending meets, swimming a lot of events, racing hard but most importantly, improving throughout the year. Winners will receive a "Heat Winner" bag tag.

All of our parent volunteers play a vital role in hosting meets. We simply could not host meets in your absence. While most jobs take little training or experience, meet officials go through an educational and training process that enables them to help officiate at all meets. In fact, our own Excel officials have outnumbered the host team officials in both our first two meets. We are very grateful to our officiating crew but are always looking for new members. Meet officials
Ensure a safe and fair competition for all our athletes
Satisfy all their volunteer requirements
Have the best seat in the pool
Have access to hospitality
