We are excited to announce that one of our National Team swimmers competed this weekend at Open Water Nationals in Sarasota, Fl. Zara Kocak swam in the 15 & Under 5k race on Saturday morning and placed 6th with a time of 1:05:20.
As the only Southeastern swimmer there, she faced stiff competition mostly from Florida, but North Carolina, Nevada, California and other regions as well.
While always a talented swimmer, Zara really had a big year during short course where she won the 13-14 400 IM at the Southeastern Swimming Championships and hit three NCSA Junior National cuts as well.
Congratulations to Zara, your Excel family is proud!
One of the highlights of our entire calendar year is the awards ceremony. But this historic season made it even more special. Never before have we been able to celebrate all the individual and team accomplishments that culminated in a Triple Crown season.
The evening started with a video recap of (see below) of the entire season which touched on the highlights of every meet. From there, we highlighted the accomplishments from every age group and moved on to the individual awards. An event like this is not possible without LOTS of background work. We have a lot of important folks to say "Thank You" to:
Head Coach Steven Murry for emceeing and hosting the ceremony
Coaches Brennan and Daun for the incredible leg work that went into set up
All the other coaches who presented and spoke
Shannon and Steven Oliver for the decorating and much much more
Clearview Baptist Church for providing the incredible venue
Our Excel Families for providing us with such talented and exciting swimmers!
Congratulations to every swimmer for being part of a Triple Crown Championship Team.
Nutrition is incredibly important for our swimmers to perform at their absolute peak. However, nutrition can also play a part in our swimmers ability to recover and specifically, get enough sleep. Swimstrongdryland.com has a really great article specifially on that topic here.
May meets are open for registration
We have two meets in May that are open for registration. The first is Cardinal Aquatics in Louisville, KY on May 12-14th and is open to anyone on the team. The second is Ensworth on May 19-21st and that is open to SES qualifiers. Please make sure that to get signed up!
USA Swimming's Virtual Club Championships
The USA Swimming Long Course VCC rankings are up... sort of. This has been a long year for USA Swimming and there are still a few glitches in the system. However, the Long Course rankings seem to be correct except for our friends at NAC who have short course times listed. However, it does give us a pretty good picture of our Long Course Season as it progresses. Check here for updates.
Over the course of the new long course season, our club will be tracking a series of recognition programs to help motivate our swimmers to succeed un a multitude of events. While ultimately these programs do reward success, they are designed to be achievable by any level of swimmers, not just those with the most experience. You can always find the running totals for each at the bottom of the Excel Extras.
Heat Winner: Place in the top three swimmers in your age group for number of races won throughout the year. This award to favor those athletes that are attending meets, swimming lots of events, racing hard but most importantly, improving throughout the year. Winners will receive a "Heat Winner" bag tag.

All of our parent volunteers play a vital role in hosting meets. We simply could not host meets in your absence. While most jobs take little training or experience, meet officials go through an educational and training process that enables them to help officiate at all meets. In fact, our own Excel officials have outnumbered the host team officials in both our first two meets. We are very grateful to our officiating crew but are always looking for new members. Meet officials
Ensure a safe and fair competition for all our athletes
Satisfy all their volunteer requirements
Have the best seat in the pool
Have access to hospitality
