We have two new seasons quickly approaching- Long Course and Summer League. For newer families, it may seem like an either/or but rest assured, every swimmer should consider doing both.
While most of our calendar year is dedicated to a short course season, there are many reasons for all of our swimmers to focus on long course as well. As the season is so much shorter, long course opportunities are relatively rare and therefore every meet is of a heightened importance. Furthermore, many USA swimming opportunities are only available to swimmers who compete in long course. Select camps, zone teams and ultimately Olympic Trials can only be earned in long course races.
Summer League is a whole different animal. While the competition maybe a little less experienced than in a club meet, Summer League is a great opportunity for new swimmers to experience the sport for the first time. With new swimmers comes new families, many of whom are also experiencing our sport for the first time. Our Excel swimmers who are swimming on, or even coaching the team is the best way to demonstrate what their own swimmer could someday be. Remember too, that like school teams, Summer League teams don't expect that your swimmer will skip an Excel practice to attending theirs. Just show up and represent them at meets. Additionally, Summer League is just plain fun! We have plenty of graduating seniors who have never skipped a summer league season.
So remember, both seasons are valuable for your swimmer's development and we look forward to beginning the summer seasons with you all.
USA Swimming's Virtual Club Championship
Throughout the long course season, we will be carefully following our team's national ranking as we aim to break into the top 40 for the first time every. You can follow along here!
Over the course of the short course season, our club will be tracking a series of recognition programs to help motivate our swimmers to succeed un a multitude of events. While ultimately these programs do reward success, they are designed to be achievable by any level of swimmers, not just those with the most experience. You can always find the running totals for each at the bottom of the Excel Extras.
Heat Winner: Place in the top three swimmers in your age group for number of races won throughout the year. This award tends to favor those athletes that are attending meets, swimming a lot of events, racing hard but most importantly, improving throughout the year. Winners will receive a "Heat Winner" bag tag.

All of our parent volunteers play a vital role in hosting meets. We simply could not host meets in your absence. While most jobs take little training or experience, meet officials go through an educational and training process that enables them to help officiate at all meets. In fact, our own Excel officials have outnumbered the host team officials in both our first two meets. We are very grateful to our officiating crew but are always looking for new members.
