What a weekend! We had three meets at the same time and we have a lot to go over! First up was the TNAQ Fall Invational where we had 200 swimmers representing Excel. As always, this was an exciting meet where our kids turned some heads. A special congratulations goes out to Zara Kocak for hitting the Summer Junior Cut in the 200 Fly and to our newest National Team member, Mason Schaefer for hitting his first NCSA cut in the 50 Free.
Thanks so much to our host team TNAQ for hosting such a great event.
Meet report below all the pictures from the weekend.
Congratulations to the 12 swimmers who swam in Mason, OH this weekend at the City of Mason Invite. This was a prelims/finals format early in the short course season so we were super excited to have this opportunity to race some very fast out-of-conference teams.
We want to extend a special "Thank You" to the host team, Mason Manta Rays, for their gracious hospitatlity. We will definitely be back!
Meet Report below all the pictures from the weekend.
We had two swimmers, Josh Strachan and Emme Perry head to Cumming, GA to swim in the Fred Lamback Para meet. Para swimming has an additional twist from the other meets this weekend; each swimmer is racing by classification. Within their classifications, Josh brought home wins in the 50 and 100 Back while Emme did the same in the 50 and 100 Breast. However, the big news for Emme was that her time of 2:01.38 qualifies her for the US Paralympics National Championships and therefore makes her the youngest member of our own Excel National Team! Congratulations to both of you.

One of the common questions that our staff gets regarding the development of young swimmers is “Should we invest in a private coach?” Like most questions, the answer is of course not quite so black and white.
The big picture is that our Excel coaching staff is the best in the LSC at developing swimmers. However, from time to time, individual issues will arise. My advice would be to contact your swimmer’s coach first and see if you all can schedule some time to fix that particular issue. However, I ask that our coaches not coach any swimmers privately as a long term solution. This avoids a “pay-to-play” environment on our pool deck.
However, if a family feels the need to get additional private coaching, there are available resources. Unfortunately, we don’t have a reliable “yelp” system for which coaches are more effective so your best source will be word of mouth on the team. The very first step in hiring a private coach is to have them reach out to your swimmer’s coach and discuss what your swimmer needs so that they can be a compliment to their existing training. Remember that the best use for a private coach is to fix a very specific problem. From there, communication on a weekly basis is highly recommended and any reputable coach will do this without your prompting.
The ride through your child’s career will be fun but can also be a little confusing at times. Please remember that your very best resources are the coaches that we have on deck and they should always be your first stop.

USA Swimming's Virtual Club Championship
Throughout the long course season, we will be carefully following our team's national ranking as we aim to break into the top 40 for the first time every. You can follow along. here!
Over the course of the short course season, our club will be tracking a series of recognition programs to help motivate our swimmers to succeed un a multitude of events. While ultimately these programs do reward success, they are designed to be achievable by any level of swimmers, not just those with the most experience. You can always find the running totals for each at the bottom of the Excel Extras.

All of our parent volunteers play a vital role in hosting meets. We simply could not host meets in your absence. While most jobs take little training or experience, meet officials go through an educational and training process that enables them to help officiate at all meets. In fact, our own Excel officials have outnumbered the host team officials in both our first two meets. We are very grateful to our officiating crew but are always looking for new members. Ensure a safe and fair competition for all our athletes
