What an incredible weekend of celebrations!
This past Saturday, like many of you, I had the honor of running in the first LLKR 5K race. And while, I didn't finish first, I won.... because we all won by simply being part of such a celebration of Kate's life. The experience of running in a crowd of Excel, for this incredible event, was an experience that will stay with me for life.
Then the very next day, I was again honored to be a part of the awards ceremony. While as a staff, we are very cognizant of tracking meet to meet performance, when we gather the data for an entire season, the results can be surpassing. Listing to the endless lists of Excel firsts, I was reminded of all the hard work that so many people put into these successes. The swimmers, our coaches and parents, all put in incredible amounts of time and energy and Sunday was a very visible celebration of the results of those efforts.
Thank you to each and everyone of you for all that you do.
The 2025 Excel Aquatics Awards ceremony this weekend, was another beautiful event were we honored the 2024-25 seasons- and we sure had a lot to celebrate! This past calendar year has seen two of the most successful seasons in Excel's history. The numbers of team records, the team championships, our national rankings and countless other metrics, all point to team who's growth and development are at the very top of the country.
The afternoon stared with our youngest swimmers receiving awards for IM Tough and for winning the 8 & under championships. Our 9-14 year olds were up next with their slew of accomplishments, including earning 2nd at Age Group Sectionals. Finally our senior swimmers were recognized for among other things, the 28 swimmers who have achieved NCSA Junior National time standards and therefore a place on our national team.
One other note about the ceremony, we also recognized the Open Water National Team, our first Para Swimming national qualifier, our Athlete Rep to the SES conference and our two National Camp participants.
A huge "Thank You" to our host Brentwood Baptist Church for efforts to bring this event to life.
The first annual LLKR (Live Like Kate Rust) 5k race was an amazing success. With just over 600 runners winding through the Bridgemore Village neighborhood wearing pink LLKR t-shirts, Kate's memory was honored in a special way.
Excel swimmers, coaches and families made up just about half of the racers Saturday morning and our show of support for the Rust family was well appreciated. In return, they have decided to use the proceeds of the race to go towards our building fund for the pool in the Bethesda area. Thanks to the Rust family for putting on this incredible event and to all of our Excel family who participated.
USA Swimming's Virtual Club Championship
Throughout the long course season, we will be carefully following our team's national ranking as we aim to break into the top 40 for the first time every. You can follow along here!
Murfreesboro- Just remember that our summer schedule will start one week later than the other sites as Rutherford County schools get out one week later. We will begin our summer schedule on Monday June 2nd.
- Coach JJ
Over the course of the short course season, our club will be tracking a series of recognition programs to help motivate our swimmers to succeed un a multitude of events. While ultimately these programs do reward success, they are designed to be achievable by any level of swimmers, not just those with the most experience. You can always find the running totals for each at the bottom of the Excel Extras.
Heat Winner: Place in the top three swimmers in your age group for number of races won throughout the year. This award tends to favor those athletes that are attending meets, swimming a lot of events, racing hard but most importantly, improving throughout the year. Winners will receive a "Heat Winner" bag tag.

All of our parent volunteers play a vital role in hosting meets. We simply could not host meets in your absence. While most jobs take little training or experience, meet officials go through an educational and training process that enables them to help officiate at all meets. In fact, our own Excel officials have outnumbered the host team officials in both our first two meets. We are very grateful to our officiating crew but are always looking for new members. Meet officials
Ensure a safe and fair competition for all our athletes
Satisfy all their volunteer requirements
Have the best seat in the pool
Have access to hospitality
