Our long course meet season begins this weekend and I we are all excited to get things kicked off. Following the most successful short course season ever, this summer promises to be huge!
Short and long course seasons differ in a couple of ways that are important for all of our members to understand. While both regular seasons end with an SES championship, long course season doesn't offer an 8 & under, Region 1 or even Age Group Sectional championships. However, long course does offer an Age Group Zone championships. This a zone wide championship in which only selected athletes are invited to.
The other meaningful changes are that long course IMX scores are often used in the selection of USA Swimming select camps and other recognitions. At the very highest end of our sport, long course racesa are the only ones that can earn a swimmer a spot at the 2028 Olympic Trials meet.
Finally, one of our long term team goals is to earn a Club Excellence banner (similar to the others hanging in the ISC) and that too, can only be earned through long course racing.
So buckle up, this is going to be a fun season and one that we will all remember!
The first annual LLKR (Live Like Kate Rust) 5k race will be held on Saturday, May 3rd at the Bridgemore Village Neighborhood Park in Thompson's Station. The event is being held in honor of Excel Swimmer and TSMS Cross Country Runner Kate Rust who passed away unexpectedly in September.
Kate is remembered for her kindness, determination, and the positive energy and joy that she brought to those around her.
The Rust family has graciously decided to donate proceeds from the event to Excel Aquatics where her younger brother Jack still swims. You can register in advance through the QR code in the attached flyer. Please join us in remembering and honoring Kate and supporting those who were fortunate enough to be a part of her life.
All team members and their families are cordially invited to the Excel Aquatics Awards Banquet. This event will take place on May 4th at 2pm at the Brentwood Baptist Church. We certainly hope to see everyone there to celebrate all of the individual and team acheivements from this past short course season. You will receive more information in your email regarding specific directions to get to the correct auditorium once you arrive at Brentwood Baptist. It is a large campus.
USA Swimming's Virtual Club Championship
Throughout the long course season, we will be carefully following our team's national ranking as we aim to break into the top 40 for the first time every. You can follow along here!
Over the course of the short course season, our club will be tracking a series of recognition programs to help motivate our swimmers to succeed un a multitude of events. While ultimately these programs do reward success, they are designed to be achievable by any level of swimmers, not just those with the most experience. You can always find the running totals for each at the bottom of the Excel Extras.
Heat Winner: Place in the top three swimmers in your age group for number of races won throughout the year. This award tends to favor those athletes that are attending meets, swimming a lot of events, racing hard but most importantly, improving throughout the year. Winners will receive a "Heat Winner" bag tag.

All of our parent volunteers play a vital role in hosting meets. We simply could not host meets in your absence. While most jobs take little training or experience, meet officials go through an educational and training process that enables them to help officiate at all meets. In fact, our own Excel officials have outnumbered the host team officials in both our first two meets. We are very grateful to our officiating crew but are always looking for new members. Meet officials
Ensure a safe and fair competition for all our athletes
Satisfy all their volunteer requirements
Have the best seat in the pool
Have access to hospitality
