Why Have Extracurricular Activities:

The primary philosophy behind extracurricular programs is to promote the physical, mental, social, emotional, and moral well-being of the participants. The extracurricular activities in our schools are intended to be a positive force in preparing youth for an enriching and vital role in American life. The extracurricular program is an important and integral part of the total school program and is open to all students regardless of individual differences. Through voluntary participation, the student gives time, energy, and loyalty to the program. I have also done research into how extracurricular activities affect academic success. For a full review please follow this link. What really stood out in my review was the at risk students benefit the most from being involved in extracurricular activities. The key is to just find a program you can be passionate about and most of all have fun.

My Coaching Philosophy:

I have a passion for building relationships with, mentoring and teaching students. Football and Track are great vehicles to help students learn life lessons, identify and develop principles in which to live by, learn the joy and personal satisfaction that comes with giving your best and being a great teammate. My goal is to help each player be significant in life and a better person for being part of our program. Wins are just a short-term goal; if that was how I measured my success as a coach it would be short-term success as well. I choose to judge my success as a coach based on how much better the lives of the future children of my athletes will be because I played a role in the development of the student athlete. That is how I view my role as a coach. Study after study has shown that the person high school students are most likely to listen to and follow direction from is their coach. I take that responsibility very seriously and I want to use it to help make my student-athletes productive members of society. To be more specific about how my coaching views may change based on the sport I have included my philosophy as my schools Linebacker coach and Throwing coach for track and field.

Linebacker Coaching Philosophy:

Linebackers are the heart of the defense and leaders by position. It is our job to receive and echo the defensive play from the coach, set the strength, make sure the defensive line is in the right spot, and make any adjustments based on the offensive formation or motion. We have to be vocal and communicate with others on the defense. We need to react fast, do our job, and hit hard. A linebacker needs to have the mindset that there is no one person who can block them, force teams to double team you. There is no more fun position to play on the field when you play correctly. We can not play as individuals, but rather a unit. regardless of our number, whether the are two, three, or four of us on the field at once, we will make our presence known to the other team. A linebacker will not always make the tackle, but they can make the play by fulfilling their role in the defense.

Throwers Coaching Philosophy:

Because track is an individual sport my coaching has to be individualized. A throwers true competition is not the other throwers, but themselves and the laws of physics. Not everyone has perfect body types, physical gifts for throwing, or athletic ability; but that is not what matters in throwing. Throwers come in every size shape and athletic ability. Throwing it about mastering the technique to best optimise your personal body type a physical gifts. You technique is about working on the small steps A thrower will not be able to win every meet. As long as a thrower keeps improving, they winning the competition with themselves. to keep improving their throws a thrower must work on the small parts of their technique until they become second nature. Then it becomes all about adjustment and practice.
