Spelling Words

The children should review their spelling words nightly. Children learn differently, so I have included a list of activities they might like to try depending on their learning style. Keep in mind children could have a combination of learning styles. Each lesson's list is linked below.

  • Visual Learners - write each word on a flashcard then decorate it using a picture that is associated with the word; spell the word using letter tiles; or write it on a dry erase board several different ways

  • Auditory Learners - say the words aloud using a microphone (paper towel cylinder); record the words and their spellings on a device and then listen to them back; have an adult spell the words aloud and the child listens

  • Tactile Learners - using the tip of your finger, write the word on the carpet or in shaving cream on a cookie sheet; write the word in glue on a flashcard (let it dry) and then trace it with your finger; using your finger form the word on your arm

  • Kinesthetic Learners - spell the words forming your body into the shapes of the letters; cheer the words using arm movements to form each letter; spell your words on the floor while pointing your foot like a pencil to "write" each letter
