Professor Kelly Shaw Keynote: Parallel Paths to Inclusion

Over the past twenty years, the computer architecture community has become increasingly supportive of diversity with respect to participation and with respect to career paths.  In this talk, Shaw will retrospectively discuss how efforts to support women in computer architecture led to the creation of WICARCH and how the momentum generated by these efforts helped further push the community to embrace diversity and inclusion related to other forms of identity.  She will explore how her uncommon career path as a faculty member at an undergraduate institution who actively engaged in computer architecture research was impacted by and intertwined with this drive towards greater acceptance of people's diverse experiences, interests, and career paths.  She will reflect on the current opportunities available to members of the computer architecture community and on the challenges to preserving and enhancing those opportunities for the next generation of researchers.
