Welcome to 3-2

Third grade is a very important year in your child's educational experience. The curriculum is very rigorous and many new skills and concepts are introduced. Below is short overview of the third grade experience.

Religion  : We will cover the concept of human and divine, the second coming, the Church calendar, Holy Days, Church hierarchy and the many Saints who inspire us.

Math  : The year begins with the study of Place Value followed by Addition (with and without regrouping), Suntraction (with and without regrouping) Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Measurement and the importance of solving word problems using problem solving techniques.

Language Arts   : Included in this subject are Reading, Phonics, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Penmanship. We use Journey and each Theme is covered in a week. There are 4 quizzes (Comprehension, Grammar, Phonic, and Vocabulary) after the completion of the Theme. The four quizzes are added togehter for  test grade. The quizzes assess the skills covered in the theme. Spelling words are assigned weekly. Writing is a daily requirement and the students will complete Personal Narratives, Descriptive paragraphs, Sequencing, Comic Strips, Poems,Creative Stories and more.

Science  : Science is a full time subject in third grade. We follow the Ace curriculum order of subject content beginning with Weather followed by Habitats and Characteristics, Force, Motion and Matter and Energy. The students will complete outlines, define vocabulary words, have quizzes and chapter tests.

Social Studies  : Social Studies is a full time subject. We will cover the beginning of our Country, Communities, the Early Settlements, the Constitution and Courts. We also cover geographical skills and concepts such as landforms, map skills, resources and regional features. We also learn about famous inventors, leaders and heroes. The students will complete outlines, define vocabulary words, have quizzes, and chapter tests
