Buist Celebrates Unity Day

On Wednesday, October 20, 2021 faculty, staff, and students may wear orange to show unity for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Wearing orange sends a visible message that no one should ever experience bullying.

No uniform is required for students wearing orange.

Great job to our 23 students who submitted entries! We sent one MYP entry and one PYP entry to the district level. Congratulations to Louise Martin (8th-Dr. Elder) and Isobel Jaros (3rd- Ms. Wright)! We wish you both the best of luck as your entry is judged at the next level!

*Entries were evaluated based on use of the theme, visually clear and able to be read, free of grammatical/spelling errors, and inclusion of attendance information.

Buist Academy Celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month

In art classes, students studied a contemporary Hispanic artist and created mariposas.

World language classes researched and created projects on influential Hispanic Americans.

In Mrs. Biggs' GT stretch classes, students studied Mayan and Aztec math and created sun stones with embedded secrets for the future.

Daily announcements included Hispanic American trivia for prizes.

Latin American Festival

The annual Latin American Festival brings people together to celebrate Charleston’s vibrant Latin and Caribbean cultures through non-stop merengue, reggaeton, bachata, and salsa music; folkloric artwork and crafts; and authentic Latin American and Caribbean staples - from flavorful empanadas to tasty arroz con pollo.

Time: 12-5 p.m.

Gifted & Talented News

Gifted Nomination Window Now Open

Students in grades 3-12 who have NOT YET been identified as gifted, may be nominated for gifted identification testing using our online form (English | Spanish).

Parents, teachers, administrators, and students are encouraged to nominate students who demonstrate high academic achievement, performance, or potential. Testing will occur in the fall. Your child’s school will follow up with specific details for testing closer to the testing date.

Grades 6-12 will test in November (Otis-Lennon School Ability Test)

Grades 3-5 will test in December (Cognitive Abilities Test)

Artisically Gifted & Talented Nominations

As part of the opportunities we offer in the Arts for students, we administer the Gifted & Talented Artistic (GTR) nomination, adjudication, and notification process for students in grades 3 through 7.

Please see the nomination form HERE. Students may be nominated for evaluation in music, dance, drama, and visual art.

Healthy and Safety Reminders

If your child is sick or symptomatic of any illness, please do not send your student to school.


If your student has tested positive, or been exposed to a COVID positive individual, please notify the school immediately and do not send your child to school.


If anyone in your household has had COVID in the past two weeks or is suspected of having COVID, please keep your child home and call the school for guidance.


If your child is awaiting COVID test results, please do not send them to school.


Your diligence is appreciated in keeping our entire school community safe and healthy for a wonderful year.
