8th Grade Band

Welcome to Band!

I am extremely excited to have you back and look forward to the amazing things we will learn this year.

Required Materials for both Virtual and Face-to-Face Band Members

Instrument - specific to the student. Each student must have their own instrument and cannot share with another student

Band Books - Standard of Excellence, Habits for a Successful Middle School Musician, and Master Theory Books

Metronome - physical or an app can be used

Music Stand - used for playing at home (needed for all students)

Instrument Supplies - Cleaning supplies, Clarinet Reeds, Bass Clarinet Reeds, Bassoon Reeds, Alto Saxophone Reeds, Cork Grease, Slide Grease, Valve Oil

Please see the list of commonly needed supplies further down on this page for links to where they can be ordered.

HOMEWORK

Students are expected to practice at home at least 5 times per week.

All work covered in class should be what is practiced at home to gain MASTERY on all skills taught.

Music for performances should be individually practiced so class time can be used to rehearse the entire band and not teach individual parts.

All students could use a good Tuner and Metronome at home for practice. All smartphones can download a Tuner/Metronome App (I suggest Tonal Energy). If putting one on your phone doesn't work, then here is a link to a good one that will last many years (as long as you replace the battery when needed). Click Here
