Welcome back to Term 3, Year 6 Te Ngahere! 2024
We are well underway with Term 3 work and learning, commencing a very full and productive term.
Here are a few points and a heads up to help this term run smoothly:
Students will be able to enter the building at 8:30am.
Students can hang their bags on the deck that is out from their class spaces.
Rooms 24 & 26 - stairs/deck closest to the Office Building
Rooms 25 & 27 - stairs/deck closest to the Hall
As part of our A.W.H.I programme this term, we are focusing on Active Listening skills, treating each other with respect, and navigating friendships. A.W.H.I. promotes positive behaviour for learning at BBS.
Readathon - This term we will be promoting a Readathon for weeks 2 to 4, culminating with a costumed book parade on Friday 16th August.
Homework Location - This will remain the same as last term. Students can access it through Google Classroom, as they do in class.
Homework Projects - Students will have an Electricity research activity to complete early in the term. They also need to bring a shoebox to school for an in-class activity. This is required as soon as possible.
BYOD - We encourage those students who own a Chromebook or laptop, to make sure their computer is fully charged and brought to school each day this term. Students should not need to bring a charger to school. Please check in with your children about whether their personal devices are working well and school-ready.
Inquiry topics - This term we will be looking at a Science unit called “Switch On” for Weeks 1-4, where students will be looking at electricity. As part of this, we will be going on a trip to MOTAT in Week 4 - Wednesday 14th August. Our second topic this term will be around our NZ Histories looking at early NZ settlement, focusing on the sub-topic of “Whaling and Sealing” in New Zealand.
Maths Week - This occurs in Week 4 (12th to 16th August).
Year 6 Nest Programme - This programme is specifically for our Year 6 students. It promotes learning about puberty and the changes our bodies go through, and is led by visiting trained personnel. This will take place on Monday 5th August.
Year 5 Camp - (Students in Room 27) Information will be shared with you soon, and a gear list will be sent home later in the term.
