At the start of this term in Year 5, the focus will be on establishing classroom routines. Students will also be looking closely at how our BBS Values to help them form positive relationships with other students, teachers, families, whanau, and in the wider Browns Bay community.

In Maths this term there will be a strong emphasis on ensuring all students learn their multiplication and division facts. At home, it is recommended that students practice their multiplication and division facts on a daily basis so they can recall them with an increased speed and accuracy.

In Reading, students will have the opportunity to read a wide range of texts at their level and learn key skills and strategies to help them become successful readers. At home, it is recommended that students read a book of their choice for at least 20 minutes per day.

In our Year 5 Topic students will be involved in a series of workshops led by the coordinators at Whitebait Connection. In these workshops they will learn about the habitat and conservation of the inanga or whitebait species that reside in our local streams.

The focus in Writing this term will be on refining students’ sentence writing skills. They will also continue to work on their spelling, grammar, structure, handwriting, proofreading, and editing skills.

Each week students will visit the Library. Students will also have the pleasure of attending Music with Mrs Warren and Te Reo Maori with Whaea Isgrove on a regular basis this term. Students will engage in our Swimming and Waterwise Programme this term.

Please join us at the Meet the Teacher Evening on Thursday the 8th of February at 5:30pm.
