Program Details

Blount County School System is committed to offering students a wide variety of educational options to compliment their general education curriculum through a comprehensive career & technical education (CTE) program of study. Blount County Schools encourage students to take advantage of the 36 different programs of study that provides a student with the opportunity to explore their individual strengths and how they may align those strengths with a rewarding career or college pathway. Twelve career & technical education courses are considered “honors” classes and seven courses satisfy graduation requirements, allowing students an opportunity to “double-dip” credits.

The advantage of taking career & technical education courses is that students are able to get a look at the world of work through real world applications using cutting edge equipment. Additionally, career & technical education students have the opportunity to acquire college credit through a dual credit agreement with Pellissippi State Community College. Students also have the opportunity to earn college credit through a dual enrollment agreement with Roane State and the Tennessee College of Applied Technology, Knoxville.

To expand career & technical education students’ skill-base, the Blount County School System has partnered with numerous businesses throughout the community to provide real life work experiences know as work-based learning to career & technical education students who have been selected through an application process. Work-based learning provides paid or unpaid work experiences and are open to juniors and seniors, ages 16 and older. Clinical nursing internships and other medical internships are considered work-based learning experiences, but follow additional guidelines due to alignment with the medical profession.
