Get to Know Me and My Educational Philosophy

I love what I do. Teaching is my passion! I have been blessed to be able to do this for 20 years, and I have been able to cross paths with so many dynamic students and adults. I began teaching at Lynchburg Christian Academy a long time ago teaching Science, Math, and Critical Thinking.:) My second teaching position was at Staunton River Middle School teaching everything from Math 6 and 7, English 6 and 7, History 6, to Drama. My final teaching adventure has been at my favorite school of all, Read Mountain Middle School, teaching English 6 for eleven years. In addition to teaching, I sponsor the Glebe Club and also help with the FOR Club, Reading Committee, and serve as the assistant coach of the girls' soccer team. I am so blessed to be a part of this school and community!

I believe children learn best when they are involved in their learning. Active participation is a must! I strive to create projects/assignments that get students engaged. Children also need to know that people care about their well-being and success. I pray that every day my students leave not only learning something new, but also feeling like I was a cheerleader for their successes.

My life is very busy outside of school with my family, Danny (husband), Blake (son-17 and senior at LBHS), and Briana (daughter-14 and 9th grader at LBHS). We are usually on a soccer field or a basketball court.:) We also love animals and have 5 chickens, 2 dogs (Gizmo and Meg) and 2 cats (Nero and Tara). We all love to hang out together watching sports or movies. We also travel very frequently as a family due to sports. It is a hectic life, but I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

My favorite quote:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
