Premier Orchestra is an open level orchestra focusing on fundamentals, proper technique, and ensemble musicianship through performance of a variety of orchestral literature covering a wide scope of musical eras and styles. Most students in Premier Orchestra have played their instruments for 2-6 years. Students also have an opportunity to work in a small ensemble and receive extra coaching as necessary. Performances include concerts, recitals, and music festivals. Students who have been in Premier Orchestra for three years may move to String Orchestra automatically after auditioning.

This class is team-taught by Ms. Chen and Ms. Tu.

String Orchestra

String Orchestra is an intermediate orchestra designed to give students an opportunity to develop their individual technique, musicianship, and knowledge of literature in large and small ensemble settings. Students perform a variety of orchestral literature covering a wide scope of musical eras and styles. Performances include concerts, recitals, and music festivals.

This class is team-taught by Ms. Chen and Ms. Tu.

Concert Orchestra

Concert Orchestra is an intermediate/advanced orchestra designed to give students an opportunity to develop their individual technique, musicianship, and knowledge of literature in large and small ensemble settings. Students perform a variety of orchestral literature covering a wide scope of musical eras and styles. Performances include concerts, recitals, and music festivals.

Students accepted into Concert Orchestra are expected to remain in the orchestra program for the remainder of their high school careers.

Symphony Orchestra

Prerequisite: Audition AND completion of one year of orchestra in high school.

Symphony Orchestra consists of advanced string players. Students are given the opportunity to play the finest music literature for both string orchestra and full orchestra. This group provides the nucleus for the symphony orchestra, which may be augmented by the wind and percussion players from Wind Ensemble. The orchestra will be prepared to provide instrumental music for the school and community when possible. Concerts may feature soloists, ensembles, and full orchestra. Playing for the entire student body and community functions such as concerts and graduation are only a few of the opportunities for public appearances afforded to orchestra members.

Students accepted into Symphony Orchestra are expected to remain in the orchestra program for the remainder of their high school careers.

All orchestra classes are year-long courses.

Special permission to take only one semester of either Premier or String Orchestra is possible with a signed form from Ms. Chen during programming in the prior school year. For instance, you may take Speech & Debate for one semester in 9th grade, then freelance and be on the team after that and be in orchestra the rest of your high school career!
