Into the Woods, Jr. Audition Information and Procedures
THE INFORMATION FROM HERE DOWN IS FROM OUR AUDITIONS FOR MATILDA IN 2021!!! IT WILL BE UPDATED WITH NEW DATES, SONG SELECTIONS AND CHOREOGRAPHY AROUND THE START OF THE SUMMER, BUT THIS INFORMATION IS HERE FOR THOSE THAT ARE NEW TO ARGYLE MIDDLE SCHOOL THEATRE TO SEE WHAT THE AUDITION PROCESS LOOKS LIKE.
Auditions will be held on Tuesday, August 31st and Wednesday September 1st from 4:15 - 6:00 p.m. Callbacks will be held on Thursday, September 2nd from 4:00 - 5:45 p.m.
The cast list will be posted online no later than Saturday, September 4th at 6pm.
For your initial audition, please prepare one piece of the pre-selected music from Matilda, Jr. Below you will find the .mp3 files of selected pieces for auditioning. For the ladies we have selected "Naughty", "This Little Girl", "The Smell of Rebellion", or "School Song". For the gentlemen we have selected "Revolting Children", "The Smell of Rebellion" or "School Song". You will only be singing one piece in your initial audition, but we suggest being familiar with the other pieces, should we need to see those in callbacks.
Auditions forms will be available in the the Black Box (Room 616). You will need to choose which day you will be auditioning and sign up for a time slot. The sign up sheet can be found on the table to the right when you walk in.
You will be auditioning in groups of 5. You will need to slate before your audition (your name, and what piece you will be singing). At that point we will begin your personal audition with the instrumental backtrack to the song of your choice. Then the next person will go through the same process- slate & sing. Once everyone in your group has sung, you will then do the dance combination as a group- once as a practice, and then for real. At the completion of your dance audition you are free to go! A video of the dance combination is also posted below in steps to help you learn it.
We encourage you to select the piece that best showcases your voice and we would love for it to be memorized, which allows you the ability to move about the space during the audition. You will not be penalized, however, if you choose to use your sheet music. Set yourself apart and bring something new and interesting to your audition. Choose your piece wisely. If your first choice is Matilda, be sure to sing us "Naughty" since it's one of the options! If your character of choice does not have a song within our audition selections, then choose the song that you feel best suits your voice. **Please note: In this particular show, Trunchbull is a female character that is traditionally played by a male to increase the character's stature compared to those around her (and comedic effect). It can, however, be played by either.
Those ONLY interested in being a technician will NOT be going through the standard audition process. Tech only applications will be available for pick-up in the Theatre classroom (Room 614) and will be due by August 30th, 2021. We will be conducting tech interviews during Advisory the same week as auditions. You must complete an in-person tech interview to be considered. Sign-up times for interviews will also be located in the theatre classroom. Please remember that wanting to do "tech only" does not ensure you a spot on crew. Those who are going through the standard audition also have an opportunity to express their interest in tech via the audition form.
