PE
Intent
At Brockworth Primary Academy, P.E lessons aspire to develop a love of learning through exposure to a wide range of sports, skills and forms of exercise. Our curriculum is designed in a way which allows children to build knowledge and to explore the variety of ways they can remain active in life and in sport. The students will learn this throughout their time at the academy. Through each unit, the children will learn and progress their skills in sport which can be transferred to our sports and aspects of life. At our academy, children will be immersed in different sports to experience teamwork and individuality.
Children are encouraged to explore creativity and show independence, using their body and control to express their unique skills through dance, gymnastics and aerobics and explore ideas that are personal to them. The units within our curriculum allow for the children to progress from simple fundamentals to applying these fundamentals and tactics in game situations. Throughout their time in the academy, they experience repeated opportunities to take in sporting events outside of school. It is the ambition that, by Y6, all children will enjoy a form of exercise or sport and understand how to improve in this. .
Pupils have the opportunity to challenge their understanding of compassion through developing a deeper understanding of what it means to be a part of a team and work together to achieve. In addition to this the pupils will show compassion by communicating with others on how they can improve in physical activity. Children are encouraged to view exercise with an evaluative and motivational spirit, frequently highlighting why it is important and sharing their own experiences of exercise and how it felt. Through focusing on learning from mistakes and forever developing skills, children show bravery and resilience in their attempts of taught skill and new skills that they have never tried before, with a strong emphasis in lessons that everyone's ‘an athlete’.
The National Curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:
develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities.
are physically active for sustained periods of time.
engage in competitive sports and activities.
lead healthy, active lives.
