Classroom Reminders

* Entry: The first week of school is always a challenge as this is many students first time in school and away from their parents. We kindly ask that in order to help us out with this new transition that you say your goodbyes in the hallway before entering in the morning. We encourage our students to walk into the classroom alone, carrying their lunch bag on their own to build both independence and confidence! This is often difficult at first but will become second nature in a few weeks.

* Label Please please please remember to LABEL all of your child's belongings, especially shirts/pants/sweater tags. When students change at swimming this will prevent mix-up's in the change rooms. Other items to label include students water bottles, lunch bags and all pairs of shoes. Students will be assigned a cubby with their name where they will be able to keep all of their belongings organized, however at this age there are mix ups.

* Drop off Students who arrive at school before 8:40am should be dropped off in the Before School Room (107). At 8:40am they will be escorted to their classrooms for the start of the day.

* Lunch will be at 11:30am and students will eat in our classroom. Please send warm items in a thermos as there is no microwave available for students.

*Toys are to stay at home to avoid loss, damage or confusion.

* Library - Library period's are still in the process of being planned by our principal. Students will be able to sign out a book each week. Please practice reading with your child - practice makes progress!

* Show and Tell - Friday  Friday Afternoons (our schedule will be posted under the Daily Schedule Tab once it is available). Talk with your child about what they are bringing in. What is it? Where did you get it? Who gave it to you? Why is it special? What does it do? Where and how was it made? Students will also get a chance to ask and answer questions about each other's items. This is a chance for students to practice public speaking, using a loud and clear voice as well as getting a chance to practice forming and answering questions in full sentences.

* Student Reading / "Homework" Homework will be sent home every Friday and should be brought back to our classroom every Monday. Please review any poems or short books with your child 2-3 times throughout the weekend. Students should be encouraged to point to the words and hold their own books as they read.

* IXL math online learning program is available for SENIOR K students. We will be beginning this towards the end of September. If you lose your login information please email me and I will send you the username and password. Please refer to my Curriculum tab in order to see what math units to focus on each month.

* Pick- Up - It is encouraged to pick up your child between 3:30 - 4:10pm in the classroom.  Students can be picked up from the Before/After School Room (107) between 4:10pm - 5:30pm. There will be a teacher in the room to meet parents/guardians and release students to their parents/guardians. Students must be picked up by a parent or guardian to ensure student safety.
