TNAU Intranet

This department is the nodal point for the development of all Information Technology activities in the University. The TNAU Intranet with a connection of more than 200 computers housed at various departments / offices / labs is being used for paperless communication from January 1, 2003. The teaching materials prepared by the course teachers, technologies developed by scientists, important events and TNAU Newsletter are regularly posted in the Intranet and updated periodically.

Indeed, the TNAU Intranet made a revolution in the communication system between different offices of the University in the main campus. The same connectivity has been established in the other college campuses also. Information related to the respective campuses are hosted in the Intranet of the colleges. All the seven college campuses are equipped with LAN servers with fibre optic/UTP network connectivity.

TNAU Internet

This department has established the TNAU Internet network with TNAU webserver (www.tnau.ac.in). This website is periodically updated with information on admission procedures, examination results for all degree programmes, new training courses offered, new technologies released and important events. It also contains information on all college campuses, departments and research stations. The staff members are provided with individual e-mail ids (userid@tnau.ac.in). These e-mail ids are accessible globally.

Video conferencing facility

Using ISDN connectivity Video-conferencing facility has been established in all educational campuses. At Coimbatore main campus, a multi-point video-conferencing system which can connect 4 locations simultaneously has been established. At other campuses single point video-conferencing is established. Online classes are conducted.

Library Information Systems

Digitization of Library records and VSAT Connectivity

At all the college campus libraries, information on available books, journals and periodicals are digitized. At the main campus Coimbatore about 1.7 lakhs entries have been made and about 0.8 lakhs at all the other 6 colleges. Online journal access is subscribed. Internet browsing facility is established at the Libraries of all the colleges for use by students. The browsing center is open from 9.00 am to 9.00 pm on all working days. Each college library is provided with VSAT Internet connectivity for online journal access.

Software Development

This department is often consulted for the development of software in agricultural research. Recently this department developed the DSSIFER (Decision Support System for Integrated Fertilizer Recommendation) software, which is used by the Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry for fertilizer doses recommendations to farming community.

CD on Agricultural Engineering Technology Catalogue

A CD containing all the implements, machineries and technologies developed by the agricultural engineering faculty since 1971 has been designed by this department both in English and Tamil.
