Calculators:

Any students taking Algebra 1A, Algebra 1, General Algebra 1, General Geometry, Geometry, Accelerated Geometry or General Algebra 2 are required to have a scientific calculator that they bring to class daily. If students need to purchase a calculator of this type, the Mathematics Department recommends the Texas Instruments TI-30XIIS. It is currently on sale at Staples in four different colors for $9.99 and in blue at Walmart for $8.88. Students are welcome to purchase and use any brand of scientific calculator. If you do purchase a new Texas Instruments calculator, please have your student bring in the "TI Technology Rewards Program" points on the back of the package. HBHS can redeem these points to purchase Texas Instruments products for the classroom. ** If students taking any of the above courses prefer to use a graphing calculator instead of a scientific calculator, that is perfectly acceptable.

Any students taking Algebra 2, Accelerated Algebra 2, Algebra 3/Trig, PreCalculus, Honors PreCalculus, Calculus, AP Calculus or AP Statistics are required to have a graphing calculator that they bring to class daily. If students need to purchase a calculator of this type, the Mathematics Department recommends the TI-84 Plus graphing calculator series. The newer versions of the TI-84 Plus family include the TI-84 Plus C and TI-84 Plus CE that use color and are rechargeable while the older version of the TI-84 Plus uses 4 AA batteries. Students are welcome to purchase and use any brand of graphing calculator, but please be advised that the teachers at HBHS are best versed in the intricacies of the Texas Instruments models. If you do purchase a new Texas Instruments graphing calculator, please have your student bring in the "TI Technology Rewards Program" points on the back of the package. HBHS can redeem these points to purchase Texas Instruments products for the classroom. The TI-84 Plus C and CE models are currently on sale at a few stores for under $90 but typically sell for $125 - $140 once these sales end. We have also had students purchase used graphing calculators on a variety of websites. Don't hesitate to investigate this option!
