Senior Naval Science Instructor

Captain Arthur William Stauff, USN (Ret)

CAPT Stauff was commissioned in 1985 through the University of Florida Naval ROTC program. CAPT Stauff enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1980 beginning his service as an Electronics Technician. Upon commissioning, he was assigned to USS Engage (MSO-433) as Operations Officer, Communications Officer and MCM Officer, where he earned his Surface Warfare Officer Designation. CAPT Stauff was selected to serve as the Mine Warfare Advisor to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Jeddah Saudi Arabia on the staff of the US Military Training Mission from 1987 through 1989. In 1989, he left active duty and immediately affiliated with the Navy Reserve.

As a reservist, CAPT Stauff has served as Executive Officer and Officer in Charge of Craft of Opportunity Mine Unit 2202 in New London, CT where he earned his Small Boat Officer designation. He was Commissioning Officer in Charge of Inshore Boat Unit 22 New Haven, CT. Other assignments include Assistant Plans Officer for Naval Coastal Warfare Group Two, Portsmouth, VA; Naval Operations Watch Officer, NR COMUSKOREA Det 102, New Haven, CT; Material & Repair Officer and Executive Officer for Mobile Inshore Underwater Warfare Unit 203 Bronx, NY. These tours included many AT/ADT periods each year in support of various worldwide exercises such as: Neon Falcon – Bahrain, UFL – Korea (2 events), Fuerzas Defensas – Panama, Dynamic Mix – Turkey, Linked Seas – Portugal and many CONUS exercises.

CAPT Stauff was recalled to active duty in January 1991 for nine months as Liaison Officer to the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) deployment to the Northern Arabian Gulf in support of Operation Desert Storm, aboard JDS Hayase (MST-463). Additionally, in 1994-95 he completed six months of Active Duty for Special Work as the Mine Warfare Officer on the staff of CTF-76 Okinawa, Japan where he coordinated numerous exercises with both the JMSDF and the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN).

CAPT Stauff has been a facilitator for the Officer Leadership Training Continuum for five years and has been an adjunct professor for GMATS at the US Merchant Marine Academy. In 2005 CAPT Stauff completed 3 years as the Director (RC) for War Gaming at the Naval War College Newport, RI. In. Oct 2005 he reported for duty on the staff of the Naval Inspector General, Washington in the N3 Area Visits and Command Inspection Department. Captain Stauff was assigned as Assistant Chief of Staff for Training & Readiness N7 US Naval Forces Central Command in Manama Bahrain from Oct 2007 to September 2012. CAPT Stauff's final tour was as a Battle Watch Captain in the Joint Operations Center at US European Command in Stuttgart Germany.

CAPT Stauff's decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Coast Guard Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), NOAA Special Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and various campaign and service medals. CAPT Stauff holds a BS from the University of Florida in Business, an MS in Industrial Technical Management from Central Connecticut State University, JPME Phase I at the Naval War College, Newport, RI and is a graduate of the Advanced JPME II program at the National Defense University Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, VA.

MGySgt Ronald V. Slagle, USMC (Ret.)

Master Gunnery Sergeant Ronald V. Slagle was born in Baltimore, MD. Growing up in New Jersey, he was recruited to the Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, VA on a basketball scholarship. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and completed boot camp at Parris Island, SC in May 1975.

Upon completion of Military Police School, Fort Gordon, GA, MGySgt Slagle was assigned to Marine Barracks, Naval Education and Training Center, Newport, RI. Meritoriously promoted to Sgt in March 1977, he was assigned “Sergeant of the Guard” at the Naval War college and a subsequent assignment as Sr. Prisoner Escort for the East Coast Region.

In November 1977, MGySgt Slagle attended Recruiter School at MCRD, San Diego, CA and an initial assignment to Recruiting Station, Boston, MA. After successfully completing a tour of duty, he was assigned to Military Police Headquarters, Quantico, VA, in February 1980. He was reassigned in 1981 to Recruiting Station, Boston, MA. MGySgt Slagle was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant for outstanding performance of duty as NCOIC, Recruiting Sub-Station, Fall River, MA.

In 1984, MGySgt Slagle was assigned to Military Police Headquarters, Marine Corps Air Station, Beaufort, SC as NCOIC, Flight Line Security.

In 1985, MGySgt Slagle was transferred back to Recruiting Station, Boston, MA where he held numerous billets at the headquarters’ level. In 1992, MGySgt Slagle was selected to represent Headquarters Marine Corps, Washington as “Top Recruiter” – East Coast. He was assigned to Camp Geiger, Camp LeJeune, NC where he was responsible for selecting Marines assigned to the Presidential Guard at Camp David and the White House.

After completion of his tour as “Top Recruiter”, he was transferred to Recruiting Station, Portsmouth, NH as the NCOIC of recruiting sub-station, Boston, MA.

After 23 years of service, MGySgt Slagle retired in May 1998. He has received many personal and unit awards over his career. He has been active in teaching MCJROTC units in Gloucester, Salem, and Haverhill High Schools in Massachusetts since his retirement, and currently holds the position as Naval Science Instructor at Manchester West High School, Manchester, NH.

MGySgt Slagle is married to the former Miss Gia Milo of Bedford, NH. They have one daughter, Vittoria, and currently reside in Bedford, NH.
