Tāku Pūtea kai: Y8

Year 8 students from Manaia View, Te Kura o Otangarei and Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Rāwhitiroa have the opportunity to participate in the Tāku Pūtea Kai (Food Bag) project again this year. Students will design sustainable food bags for their whānau. Tasks include students analysing surveys; researching, testing and trialing recipes; seeking feedback from their peers; making changes to recipes; creating flowcharts and budgeting. This exciting process supports each team of students to make a final decision of the final recipe for their food bags.

Two key focuses students learnt about are Sustainability, and the benefits of eating fruits and vegetables of different colours. Recipes need to be able to be made without meat and include fruits and vegetables that are in season.

This project is not possible if it was not for:

Whangarei Sunrise Rotary Club - a tremendous round of thanks goes to this club, not only for their financial support, but towards assisting with manpower on the day when bags are assembled.

Ray White - for their "We Can Help With That" donation. This financial support covers the costs for each food bag.

Countdown, Tikipunga - for their donation of sustainable 'Bags for Good'

Whangarei District Council - for their donation of sustainable 'Love it Here' bags
