Introduction to Business

Course Description:

Students will take this class with the goal of contributing to improved economic citizenship. This course includes the study of topics that help students become more knowledgeable and appreciative of the American business system and its role in our economic society, become better prepared to manage their personal business and financial affairs, and become more able to select and use the goods and services of business. Students will use the issued textbook and supplemental class materials to develop their understanding of the business world as a whole.

Course Objectives:

    1. Develop understanding of basic economic choices and activity

    2. Briefly examine international business practices

    3. Explain corporate social responsibility and business ethics

    4. Detail the various forms of business organization including corporations, small businesses, and entrepreneurship

    5. Examine qualities of effective managers/leaders

    6. Detail the various components of a business including human resources, research and development, marketing, finance, and production management

    7. Examine how technology affects the workplace

    8. Discuss financial services such as investments, banking institutions, consumer credit, and insurance
