Bowls for BrainPower is a joint venture of Burnsville High School's Art Department and the Youth Service Program. The idea comes from students and an Art teacher in Michigan searching for a way to make a difference by serving in their community. Together they came up with the idea to make clay bowls, serve a simple soup and bread meal, and let participants keep the empty bowl as a reminder that many people frequently have little to eat. From that humble beginning in a single school, the idea has spread across the nation and around the world and now each year millions of dollars are raised to fight hunger through Empty Bowls events.
