The Department of Political Science at Indraprastha college for women makes an effort to welcome students into an understanding of the political world. It works on building a critical and active citizen out of them. It also provides them a perspective to engage with economic, administrative social and cultural issues of the times we live in. At the department we provide young women the space to engage with the Political world they already inhabit analytically.

The scope of Political Science has been expanding in recent times. After graduation in Political Science, many of our students have been successfully pursuing law or careers in a range of different areas from management to government, civil services, journalism and international relations.

With the increased emphasis on investigative and political journalism, there are many opportunities for those who understand politics, and can research problems or events, and write clear coherent stories. Many of our graduates choose to become involved in print, television, or radio journalism, when they apply their expert understanding of political systems to create reports about concerned events.

As a political scientist, one can also work for a Government, a think tank (research organisation), a non-profit organisation, a political lobby group, college or university, or even a business house. A substantial majority of our students choose to teach in one setting or another – in intermediate colleges, Degree College, or at university graduate departments and management institutes. Political Science is a rewarding field to communicate with others. Many of our graduates do research in a variety of employment settings-in a university, in a business or industrial firm, in an N.G.O. or even in the non-profit or advocacy sector.

Typically our graduates have found careers in:

  • Civil Services and the Bureaucracy

  • Non-Governmental Organizations
