Learning Skills

Learning Skills Success Criteria

Responsibility:

I will:

• come to class prepared to learn and bring all the materials I need (agenda, homework, gym shoes, etc.)

• complete and return my homework and assignments on time

• do my very best work (neat printing, take my time, answer fully) and work hard to get my work done

• follow the rules and routines (no bullying, arrive on time, follow our schedule)

Organization:

I will:

• decide what’s most important (e.g. what is due first)

• organize my agenda, worksheets, notes from home and my belongings so I know how to find them and use them easily

• make a plan to complete assignments and use my time effectively (e.g. rough draft, editing, final draft)

• gather and find the resources or materials I need to get the job done (e.g. protractor, ruler, math notebook)

Self-Regulation:

I will:

• work hard to meet the class learning goals and my personal goals

• use criteria to help me reach my goals and track and monitor my achievements towards reaching those goals

• ask questions when I need help and face challenges by trying my best and not giving up

• reflect on my strengths and areas for improvement in relation to my learning and behaviour (listen to feedback given by my teachers and peers, complete self-assessment checklists)

Initiative:

I will:

• try new things and face challenges with a positive attitude

• show interest in learning (participate, contribute my ideas in a group)

• help myself and others to do their best (give appropriate and useful feedback)

• ask questions and seek information when needed (if I don’t understand a task, if I’m absent and need to find out what I missed)

Collaboration:

I will:

• share ideas and materials in a nice way (take turns, listen to other’s opinions)

• speak politely to others (use appreciation statements, manners, mutual respect)

• do my share of the work and accept various roles when working in groups

• work with others to resolve any problems in a fair way (listen to their viewpoint, discuss possible solutions)

Independent Work:

I will:

• listen attentively so that I know what to do (stop, look and listen, read the instructions on the board)

• follow instructions and work on my own the best I can

• use my class time appropriately to complete tasks (start tasks right away, work quietly, finish on time)

• focus on my work and let others focus on their work
