Print release stations

When you print to most of the printers at RMS, your print job will be held in a release queue. What this means is, your print job will not actually print until or unless you click the "Release" button when you're standing right there next to the printer -- at which point it prints immediately.

If you don't need the print job (it's the wrong document, or you changed your mind and need to make changes), just click the "Cancel" button.

Make a habit of looking at the "Pages" column before you hit the release button -- especially when you're printing directly from a web page. Sometimes, what you expect to be one page actually runs to more, because the webpage has more scrollable content than you thought. If you expected one page and it's queued up six, cancel the job and re-send it with a page range of 1 to 1. If you need help doing that, ask a teacher or the tech people, we're happy to show you! Here's one example:

The reason for release stations is because people frequently send things to the wrong printer, or send things and then forget to pick them up, or send things and then realize they didn't actually need to print that, and so on. The release stations reduce waste by intercepting and holding jobs, for up to 30 minutes, and if they are not released, they just disappear. Your PaperCut account doesn't get charged, and no paper or ink is wasted.

If you have your own device and wish to print, please see this page for instructions.
