PHYSICAL EDUCATION COURSE GOALS
The physically literate individual…
Standard 1 Demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.
Standard 2 applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics related to movement and performance.
Standard 3 demonstrated the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health enhancing level of physical activity and fitness.
Standard 4 Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others.
Standard 5 recognizes the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.
Grading: Students are given a weekly grade based on being properly dressed for PE, their behavior, and their effort during class. They will also have a skills (physical) test at least once per unit of study.
Missed work and Make-up Policy: Students will not be penalized for being absent and/or unable to physically participate. A student that misses or is unable to do a skills test will make-up the skills test the next time they are in class and able to do so.
Student Dress: Students need to come to class in appropriate clothing on their designated P.E. day. In addition to wearing tennis shoes with laces or Velcro straps (that go around the entire heel), students should also wear clothing that is conducive to physical activity (pants or shorts). Please do not allow your child to bring money, purses, jewelry, or other valuables to class. These items are almost always left in the gym and placed in the school lost and found.
Participation: Students are expected to fully participate unless a note is sent to the teacher from a doctor or from the parent/guardian (on a class-by-class basis).
E-Learning: Guidelines for inclement weather: The classroom teachers will be given a google slide document for PE and include it with their e-learning plans. Students may also receive a Live Google Meet instruction session.
Behavioral Expectations: The expectations for behavior are discussed with each class during the first week of school and are enforced throughout the school year.
1. Students are expected to come to class prepared (tennis shoes with laces or Velcro straps and shorts or pants).
2. Students are expected to listen and follow directions.
3. Students are expected to respect others.
• Treat others, as you want to be treated.
• Work in your own space.
• Keep your hands to yourself.
4. Students are expected to show good sportsmanship by playing fairly, following the rules, being honest, and cooperating.
5. Students are expected to respect the equipment and use it when and how instructed.
Consequences: Regarding misconduct, the student will be instructed to correct the behavior (i.e. a “warning”). For typical offenses during class, the student will be given a “time-out” from the class activity and away from his/her peers. For repetitive or subsequent offenses, a note will be sent home or a call will be made to the student’s parents. Should a more serious event occur during a class (i.e. disrespect, fighting with another student), a student may be immediately referred to the school administration.
Procedures for Non-Instructional Routines: Students are encouraged to use the restroom either before or after class; however, students will be allowed to use the restroom in the case of an emergency. Students will be allowed to see the school nurse in the event of a sudden illness or accident.
Communication with the Teacher: Parents are encouraged to contact the teacher by phone or email should there be a question or concern.
