Mrs. Guth

Welcome! Even though my e-mail says Christina (my formal name), I go by "Christy."

I love experiential lessons for students to participate in their own learning. I believe that the value of life-long lessons outweighs the facts. Our combined school is unique! The elements that make it unique provide opportunity for discussion. Some things we will talk about in our school family, as they cannot be ignored. Cultural learning happens with or without us, so I would rather be intentional about these conversations!

I grew up in Greenville and taught in Greenville for a few years before heading to Deltona, Florida. There I found my passion: teaching academically gifted children. I have been teaching at the Charles Townes Center for 16 years. As a student who was not always challenged in school, I personally connect with these sweet and delightful (and sometimes emotional) children.

I am nationally certified by the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. I am state certified in Elementary Education, Gifted Education, and Teaching Reading. I earned my Master's Degree with honors from Clemson University in Literacy Coaching. I never stop learning!

I am happily married to Chris, a school administrator at Riverside Middle. We have three daughters who all went through CTC: Emma is at Clemson, Katherine is at Wade Hampton High, and Madison is here still, in 7th grade. Each child's giftedness has manifested itself in different ways!! We have a little dog, a Jack-Chi, Remington. If I carve out "me" time, I love playing board games, baking, playing the piano, the beach, and the sound of the ocean.

I feel called to the profession of teaching. I believe that is the only way to do it well. It's not a "job."

Learning in the 21st century is incredibly exciting, and children are (literally) the future!

How lucky am I that I get to work with them every day!
