Meet Mrs. Smeaton

Hello, my name is Anne Smeaton and I am thrilled to be returning for my 11th year at Taylors Elementary. I loved my 5 years here teaching third grade, but thoroughly enjoy my current role as a reading interventionist. Again this year, I will work primarily with second and third graders to improve their reading skills. I love reading and hope to transfer some of that love for reading to my students this year. They find they will be "off to great places" (Dr. Seuss) through reading and through books!

I was born and raised in Westfield, NJ, but we have lived in Greenville County for over 30 years, and I really think of South Carolina as home. I am a graduate of East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania and have been certified to teach in five different states as my husband and I transferred around the country on the corporate “see America” plan. Over the past 18 years, I have worked either part time, full time, or as a long term substitute in Greenville County schools. Prior to that, I have taught in a variety of states and coordinated an education program at our church.

I am married to my high school sweetheart, Jim, and together we have raised three sons. Rob and his wife, Ashley, live in Wilmington, NC. They are the parents of our sweet baby grandson, Beau. Our other two sons, Dan and Kevin, live and work in Charlotte. Soon we will add another daughter to our family when Kevin and Grace marry. I am proud to say that all the men in my life are Eagle Scouts! Our family also includes our 15 year old “pound puppy”, Smokie.

My favorite activities always surround my family and we still enjoy traveling or boating on Lake Keowee together. I am active in my church, but in my free time you will find me with with my nose in a book, working on counted cross-stitch, knitting something for Beau, or outside in our yard. I love to garden, both flowers and vegetables, and I am trying to polish my rusty golf skills so I can begin to play again.

I am looking forward to teaching reading to a variety of students and to another great year as a Taylors Topcat.
