(4/29/15 - In Person) - "Do you think you could have a resting platform attached to the cart that would just fold down?"
Response: We acknowledge that having a rest for the window once it's been removed would be something we could incorporate. However, we feel that purchasing a commercially available stool to serve that purpose instead of having a platform attached to the machine would be just as viable.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
(4/29/15 | In Person) - "For your safety components and other add-ons (wheel depression mechanism, stool), I think you should physically attach them to the system. For example, you could have the wheel depression mechanism attached to a cord on the machine and the stool platform be part of the machine instead of a separate entity."
Response: We agree with Dr. T with his comment about people having the tendency to forget safety things especially when it comes to continuously removing windows over and over. Having the wheel depression mechanism attached to a cord on the machine would be smart. As far as the stool platform attached to the machine, it would definitely add more weight towards the front, resulting in more required counterweight at the rear of the cart. We feel it would be much easier to have the stool as a separate piece and because the maintenance staffed pushed really hard for the stool, it seems less likely for them to neglect something they insisted on having.
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
(4/29/15 | In Person) - "What exactly is the purpose of the stool?"
Response: The stool was a strong suggestion by the maintenance staff to act as a rest for the window once it's been removed out of the frame. It basically serves as an extra safety precaution.
Risks and Areas of Concern
Having to find out if there is a commercially available hinge suitable for the hinge point at the suction cups. If there isn't, we would have to design one ourselves.
How specific hinges would behave with the motion of our machine and whether or not it would be agreeable.
