New York State recently passed the most aggressive climate legislation in the country, the Climate Leadership and Communities Protection Act. This interactive dialogue will discuss the latest climate change impacts along with what we are doing at the state and local levels to solve the climate crisis.

Speakers include:

    • Gary Langham* (Executive Director at the American Association of Geographers and former chief scientist for National Audubon Society) to start with a big-picture overview of climate impacts on ecosystems and human communities.

    • Mark Lowery* (Assistant Director, Office of Climate Change NYS DEC) to talk about DEC’s approach to helping communities prepare for the CLCPA).

    • Aaron Strong* (Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies, Hamilton College) to discuss the Climate Leadership and Communities Protection Act broadly.

    • Phil Hofmeyer* (Associate Professor of Renewable Energy, SUNY Morrisville) to discuss the deployment of renewable energy in NYS and beyond.

    • RuthAnn Loveless* (Mayor Village of Hamilton) to discuss progress at the municipal level (Village of Hamilton).

    • Chris Rossi* (Town of Hamilton Trustee) to discuss progress at the municipal level (Town of Hamilton)

    • Ellen (Percy) Kraly* (William R. Kenan Jr. Professor of Geography and Environmental Studies at Colgate University)

    • Cecilia Kane ‘20* (Colgate University student and intern in the Office of Sustainability) as the event moderator.
