FYI: New Jersey Real Estate License Types FAQ

1. All license types with the exception of Broker MUST work for and in the name of a sponsoring, licensed broker to obtain a license in New Jersey.

2. We will go over, in class how to select a broker, what to look for, and important questions to ask. Just about any broker will hire you, it's a matter of finding the right one for you. No, you do not need a broker in order to take the pre-licensing class.

3. Taking the pre-licensing class is not optional, it is a requirement for licensure with an NJ licensed school which we are:

The process to obtain a license is to take the class, pass the school exam, pass the state exam, get fingerprinted for the NJ REC (no matter if you were already fingerprinted for another reason recently), get sponsored/work for an actively licensed NJ Broker and send the paperwork to state with a brokers check or money order made out to the state treasurer of NJ to obtain your broker license for the first time.

5. Licenses are renewed odd-numbered years by June 30th no matter when you initially get licensed so if near that date take it into consideration before you send paperwork to state if near that date.

6. If you do not currently possess a real estate license, then you will be wanting to take the Salesperson class which will be good for obtaining the Salesperson or SLWREC license types.

To obtain a Broker or Broker-Salesperson license you must have been a full-time licensed Salesperson for the last 3 years immediately preceding your application for licensure as a Broker or Broker-Salesperson. This is the law.

1. Salesperson - what most people call a "Realtor" although technically not a license type works with buyer/sellers, landlords/renters.

2. SLWREC - Salesperson Licensed with a Real Estate Referral Company formerly "Referral Agent"

3. Broker / Broker of Record - Authorized to operate a real estate brokerage and charge the public for services performed, all other license types do so under the brokerage's name which the Broker runs.

4. Broker-Salesperson - A broker that works under and in the name of another sponsoring broker in a sales or management capacity.

ONLINE LIVE CLASS VIA ZOOM in "MEETING MODE"

THE REC has approved online licensing permanently, we will be working on a solution allowing instructors to simultaneously teach online and in-person in the future.

We teach these classes in "Meeting Mode" which more closely resembles the classroom environment where students can ask questions openly vs "Presentation/Webinar Mode" which many schools teach remotely using that does not permit such open questions to be presented. The student would have to raise their hand and hope they get called on and given permission to speak in those modes.
