February 2020- Daniel Garrett


Brookville High School- Campbell County Technical Center

“He has a lot of drive, something you can’t teach. He has a good personality and did a really good job with his interview. We are as excited as he is,” says Sierra Phillips, Director of Personnel Development at Southern Air, Inc. in Lynchburg, VA after hiring Campbell County Technical Center (CCTC) senior Daniel Garrett.

Daniel is a second year Electrical student at CCTC where he has earned his National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Core Certification as a junior, and will soon be finished with all modules towards completion of his NCCER Electrical Level 1 Certification. Once he is able to begin his position as a full time State Apprentice in the Electrical Department at Southern Air he will be able to complete the Electrical Levels 2 through 4 Certifications as well as the needed hours to obtain his Electrical Journeyman License. Daniel hopes to one day be a certified master electrician.

Daniel is also a student at Brookville High School where he has exemplary attendance, has stayed in good academic standings and has shown leadership and citizenship. He has been a member of the football team for four years, and was selected as captain during his senior season. He has been selected to 1st team All-Seminole District and 2nd team All- Region 3C as a defensive back. He represented the class of 2020 on the homecoming court, and participated on the track team for 3 years. Daniel has been selected as a tour guide/mentor to younger students both at the Technical Center and at an Elementary School Career Day.

Daniel lives in Evington with his parents, and he plans to remain in the area after graduation. He has two sisters and two dogs. He has worked many hours at the Cracker Barrel over the past year and a half, and attends Wednesday services at Tree of Life Ministries in Lynchburg, VA.

Both Brookville High School and Campbell County Technical Center are proud of Daniel and are honored to have the opportunity to have him as a student during his time in Campbell County Schools. We look forward to the many successes in his future.

  • He used to be allergic to pineapple but now he loves it!
  • Disney Cars is his favorite movie.
  • He has "WAY too many” favorite songs to pick just one.
  • CheezIts are his favorite food, (not pineapple.)
  • His hobbies are snowboarding, surfing, skateboarding and biking!

When asked if there is any particular quote or expression that he likes, Daniel excitedly said “Work hard, go get your money!”


January 2020- Trent Montague


Altavista High School- Campbell County Technical Center- Central Virginia Community College

Trent Montague, an Altavista High School senior aspires to be a Health Care Administrator. He wants to manage a residential nursing facility one day. "I just love the residents, and their stories, and their advice," says Trent of his current position with Saber Healthcare Group at Autumn Care in Altavista, VA, where he works as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA.)

Recently Trent was selected as one of Virginia's five nominees for the U.S. Presidential Scholars, in Career and Technical Education, and is now being considered for National Recognition later this year.

At the Campbell County Technical Center (CCTC) this did not surprise us! Trent is a 3.56 GPA student who has participated in many academic and extra curricular activities during his time as a student in Campbell County Schools. During his junior year Trent attended CCTC, Nurse Aide program where he finished the class with an A, and earned his CNA license through the Virginia State Board of Nursing. That accomplishment, combined with his phenomenal work ethic, led to full time employment as a CNA at Autumn Care in Altavista over the summer, and continued employment between his school commitments the past six months.

This year, as a senior, Trent is enrolled in a joint program with Campbell County Schools and Central Virginia Community College, called Health Sciences. During the first semester Trent successfully completed 16 credit hours, and is currently enrolled in another 13 credit hours. Upon completing Trent will receive both the Health Sciences I and the Health Sciences II Career Studies Certificates from within the Virginia Community College systems, Health Sciences Pathway program.

Trent is also:

  • a member of the Astronomy Team
  • a member of the Art Club
  • a member of the Latin Honor Society, where he serves as Secretary
  • a member of the Varsity Cheerleading Team, where he has been a captain for two years
  • a member of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA,) where he has served as secretary for three years. And, placed in the Regional FBLA Competition for Health Sciences at Longwood University
  • a member of the Torch and Honor Society, and attended the Future Medical Leaders of America
  • a former member of the track team, for three years

The joke among friends is, "When does he have time to sleep?!"

Trent is not only committed to his future, but he is also kind, charismatic and fun-loving. He volunteers at his church and within his community as well. Trent was also named the Altavista High School Homecoming King in the fall of 2019.

Recently Trent was accepted to East Carolina University where he plans to attend in the fall of 2020 and continue his journey and major in Health Care Administration.

Trent's mom says of him: "My son Trent is very unique. You can never be around him and not end up with a smile on your face. Not only does he have those qualities, he also knows where he's going in life and nothing will slow him down, or stop him from getting where he wants to go. He will succeed in life, I have no doubt about that."
