Computing platform for exercises

• You will have access to laptops which will, for the most part, serve as terminals for connecting to the machine vdmmss-dev

  • Please do not turn off the laptop

  • Please do not lock the screen to the laptop

  • Please do not close the screen to the laptop

  • User accounts on vdmmss-dev - kurs1, kurs2, ...

    • Passwords will be given in class

  • Accessing the exercise machine

ssh -X vdmmss-dev -l kurs1 (or 2, 3, ...)

OR

ssh -X kurs1@vdmmss-dev

• • Most files for exercises are available on vdmmss-dev in

/home/kurs/donmor/Files

They are also available, on a longer-term basis, at:

Network port numbers

Some of the client/server exercises will require you to use a unique port number. Port numbers 50001-50010 have been reserved for the course, and you should be sure to use that one that corresponds to your userid
