Login to my Blake Google Groups

The Groups Self-Assessment typically requires 15-30 minutes to finish. It will require you work in your Groups @ Blake account in order to complete five hands-on activities.

You may re-take the assessment as many times as you would like in order to get a score of 80% or above. We encourage you to use the online resources (videos and step-by-step directions) to get a good score.

To start, please watch the 90 second overview on how to take the self-assessment and how to take advantage of the online resources to answer any questions that stump you.

Section 1: Join, Read, Reply and Post to a Group.

• I understand that I should login into a "core" Google Apps service such as Mail, Calendar, Drive/Docs before logging into an ancillary services such as as Google Groups.

• I understand what Google Groups is and how it serves a similar function as Conferences in FirstClass and Global Mail Lists in FirstClass.

• I understand the difference between Google Groups and my personal contact groups.

• I can access Google Groups.

  • I can switch to the “new Google Groups.”

• I have taken a visual tour of the “new Google Groups” to get a lay of the land such as the home screen, my groups screen, topics, screen, and topic screen.

• I can navigate to “My Groups.”

• I can star groups to create a list of “Favorite Groups.”

• I can organize a group into a folder and favorite a group.

• I can create a new post in Google Groups.

  • I understand why and when I would use a discussion post.

  • I understand why and when I would use an announcement post.

• I can use the formatting toolbar to format my post.

  • I can add images to my post.

    • I can add hyperlinks to my post.

  • I can attach a file to my post.

• I can post a reply to a Group.

• I can delete a post.

• I can reply to author from Google Groups to reply to the poster through private email.

• I can forward a post to another group or email address.

• I can link to a post in an email.

• I can read a group post.

• I can navigate forward and backwards in a Group.

  • I can use the “Back” button to return the first page of a group.

• I can use the basic search feature in Google Groups.

• I can use the advanced search feature in Google Groups.

• I can navigate back to the Groups home page.

• I can refresh the Google Group page.

Section 2: Change my group membership and settings

• I can view the details about a group in the directory, including the list of members and owners of the group.

• I can edit my membership in my Google Groups.

  • I can set my membership (subscription) preferences to “No Email” and understand that I need to periodically visit the group in order to read the correspondence.

  • I can set my membership (subscription) preferences to “Abridged Email” or “Digest Email” and understand that I will receive a summary of the activity in the group once per day.

• I can change my email delivery options for all Google Groups using the “Edit Membership”

• I can locate the “group email address.”

• I can send an email to the group from my inbox using the “group email address”.

• I can send a calendar invitation to the group using the “group email address”.

• I can share content with the group using the “group email address” to share with specific people at Blake such as:

  • Google calendars.

  • Google documents, spreadsheets, forms, and presentations.

• If I choose to receive abridged or digest email from the group, then I can setup a label and filter for the group in my email inbox.

Section 3: Search, and Organize Groups and Topics

• I can filter topics.

• I can search for a group.

• I can browse the directory for a group.

• I can apply for membership of a closed group.

• I can search for a topic.

• I can create favorite groups (Starred Groups).

• I can organize my favorite groups.

• I can star topics.

Section 4: Help and Other Resources

• I know how to access and search the Google Groups help resources to help me figure out answer to my question.

• I know how to access and search the “Quick Answer” resources in Support @Blake.

• I know that I can ask a colleague for help when I get stuck.

• I know how to submit a request or case to Support @Blake when my colleagues, Google’s help resources or “Quick Answers” at Blake comes up dry.

• I understand to login to my Google Groups that I use my “network password,” the same password that I use to login into my computer at school, internet, and the file server on the academic domain.
