The University of Minnesota gives credit for AP test scores of 3 or higher in most areas. Please visit the U's AP Course Equivalency Chart website to see how your AP scores will transfer. (This chart is for a specific admission year and may change each May. )
Calculus: It's not uncommon to "retake" a course you've already passed with an AP if you want to solidify your foundations before continuing. For example, while a 4 on AP Calc AB lets you jump straight to Calculus 2, you could reasonably go into Calculus 1 instead.
Chemistry: Even with a 5 on AP Chemistry, we do not recommend going directly into Chem 2301: Organic Chemistry 1. The chem department found that students were more successful in Chem 2301 if they'd taken chemistry at a college than coming from AP. However, if you feel exceptionally strong in chemistry and have had significant prior college coursework, we're open to going to Chem 2301.
Do not order official AP scores. This process is not free and you could choose to not attend the U after high school.
Each department's process to honor unofficial AP scores is different. See the closed course guide's "Course Exceptions" section to learn each department's process for using AP scores as prerequisites.
AP Calculus: If using AP Calculus scores as a prerequisite, please email a free, unofficial AP Score Report PDF to your advisor so we can confirm that you're qualified to take the course.
The University of Minnesota only gives individual course credit for higher-level IB exam scores, though standard-level exam scores may grant general elective credit alongside a full IB diploma.
Visit the IB Course Awards chart to see how scores may transfer.
Check Transferology [see user guide] to learn how credits may transfer from other colleges/universities to the U. You can log in as a guest and access transfer course information from across Minnesota.
