Virtual Instruction Support

Virtual instruction has become commonplace in today's educational landscape. With this in mind, teachers need to be mindful of a few things in order to make the experience as productive as possible. Each tab below touches on best practices that can help you with this process.

All JPS personnel have access to the Google Meet video conference platform. If you need assistance with Google Meet, please click the link below.

Virtual Teaching Backgrounds

●        Choose your location purposefully where no one can walk behind you and where you can expect limited interruptions.

●        Choose your background carefully.  Keep the background behind you simple to minimize distractions.

●        Avoid virtual backgrounds for regular daily instruction.

Virtual Teaching Expectations

●        Take care of any personal business prior to classroom Meet sessions.

●        Be on time for each class.  Join all sessions 5-10 minutes prior to the start of the session where possible.

●        Be prepared.  Close all extra tabs on your browser not related to the meeting or class and have all course material present and ready as you  would at the start of class.

●        Use school appropriate language with students and expect them to do the same.

●        Maintain respect for all students in the virtual class when speaking and writing and expect the same from students.  This includes chat messages.

●        Stay attentive and limit distractions.

●        Do not take and publicly post any pictures taken during a videoconference session.  Do not take screenshots or screen captures of video classes.

Expectations for Video Conferences Involving Students

●        All video sessions involving students must require all participants to join with video and audio off (mute participants upon entry.)

●        Use the waiting room for all conferences.

●        Use a meeting password for all classes.

●        Lock the meeting after taking attendance if all students are present.

●        Require students to change/keep their legal name as written on their report card.

●        Remind students when video conferences are being recorded.

●        Do not allow students to start screen sharing.

●        Restrict in class chat when not needed.
