Reading & Math Summer Program
The Program is Closed for Enrollment
The Center for the Study of Learning conducted a research project supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and by the National Science Foundation (NSF). This program recruited children who struggle with math or both reading & math.
What are we doing?
Children who are eligible will receive daily tutoring (six 50min sessions per day) for 6 weeks (3 weeks of math and 3 weeks of reading intervention).
The interventions are provided by tutors from Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes in small groups.
Children must be brought to Georgetown University by a parent for testing and non-invasive functional MRI brain scans. These sessions will take place (1) prior to the interventions, (2) between the math and reading interventions, and (3) following both interventions.
Where & When?
The program has two locations:
Siena School (Silver Spring, MD)
June 17th - July 26th, 2019
Oakwood School (Annandale, VA)
June 24th - August 2nd, 2019
The program takes place Monday to Friday, 9am - 3:30pm
The testing and non-invasive functional MRI brain scans take place at the Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington D.C.
Testing prior to and after the intervention is schedule at your convenience in the 2 weeks prior to and after the program.
Children must attend the full duration of the program.
Can your child participate?
To determine eligibility, we will (i) conduct a phone call to obtain information on your child’s medical history and (ii) test your child at Georgetown University on reading, math, and IQ.
Eligibility is based on several factors, including:
aged between 8 and 12 years
no metal in body
no history of neurological or psychiatric disease

What are the costs?
The interventions are paid for by a grant awarded to Georgetown University. The participation fee is $50 per week (i.e. $300 for the 6-week program) to cover the administrative costs of the hosting school.
Compensation and Reimbursement
Your child will receive a small gift and a gift card at every testing session at Georgetown University.
You will be provided with the results of your reading evaluation and related measures.
All travel to Georgetown University Medical Center from the DC metro area will be reimbursed.
