What is the One Button Studio?

According to Penn State, the creators of the One Button Studio, it's "a simplified video recording setup that can be used without any previous video production experience. The design of the studio allows you to create high-quality and polished video projects without having to know anything about lights and cameras. You only need to bring your flash drive with you and push a single button."

The One Button Studio can be reserved by students and faculty for various activities, such as:

  • Rehearsing and recording a speech for a Communications class=

  • Recording a music or theater audition

  • Using the studio with or without the included Lightboard to record a lecture

  • Practicing an important presentation so that the speaker has a chance to spot any issues or inconsistencies.

What's a Lightboard?

Lightboards are a cool technology that use neon markers and a special kind of glass to create "floating" drawings that can be used during lectures. This technology works much like a whiteboard, but due to its translucent nature, allows the speaker to face the camera while writing, rather than having their back to the audience the entire time.

The user stands behind the Lightboard and writes on the glass traditionally. The One Button Studio is set up so that the recorded image is flipped so that it appears correct to the viewers as well.

What do I do once I'm done recording?

Once your recording is complete and you're satisfied with your efforts, you can remove your flashdrive and either take the video with you or use the bank of Macs available outside the studio to edit the video using iMovie, Adobe Premier, Camtasia, or your preferred video editing software.
