B.10(A) Readiness

Circulatory System

Heart, Arteries and Veins

Arteries flow away from the heart

Veins flow toward the heart

Circulates blood throughout the body

Nervous System

Brain, Spinal cord, and nerves

Network of nerve cells that transmit impulses between parts of the body

Stimulus and Response

Respiratory System

Nose, Nasal cavity, Trachea, Lungs

Gas exchange- Taking in oxygen and expelling carbon dioxide

Animal Reproductive System

Female- Ovaries, Uterus, and Vagina

Female produces egg as reproductive cell/gamete. (haploid cell)

Male- Prostate, Testis, Urethra, Penis

Males produce sperm as reproductive cell /gamete. ( haploid cell)

Fertilization - the union of sperm and egg to create zygote (the first diploid cell).

Excretory system

Kidneys and bladder

Kidneys remove excess water and waste from the blood to maintain homeostasis.

Sweat glands in the skin secrete a fluid waste, its primary functions are temperature control

Endocrine System

Thyroid, Pituitary gland, Pancreas , Adrenal gland

Regulates Hormones for metabolism, growth, digestion and response

Integumentary System

Skin (epidermis)

Protects the body from various damage, water loss, and outside invaders

Muscular System

Muscles- skeletal, smooth, and cardiac

Helps with movement, maintaining posture, digestion and circulation of blood throughout the body

Skeletal System

Bones and joints

Allows attachment points for muscles to move at joints. Maintain posture and framework of the body.

The bone marrow produces blood cells.

Digestive system

Mouth, Esophagus, Stomach, Intestines, Colon, Anus

Break down of food molecules (carbohydrates, proteins , lipids)

Immune System

Lymph Nodes, Lymphatic tissue

Defend the body against foreign invaders like bacteria, parasites, viruses, and fungi.

  2. Explain which two body systems would be used for breathing?

  3. Explain which two body systems would be used for waste removal?

  4. Give me an example of how one body system helps the entire body maintain homeostasis.
