The genetic code is the universal code because all living things share the same nitrogen bases adenine (A), guanine (G), thymine (T), and cytosine (C). The genes for all organisms are built from these same building blocks. What makes organisms different is the order of these nucleotide sequence and the frequency of these nitrogen bases.
